Personal development

At Rhodes Green CE Primary School, we want children to leave us with much more than strong academic knowledge. Personal development is at the heart of the education we provide, helping children grow into confident, resilient, compassionate and responsible young people who are ready for life beyond primary school.

Our approach is underpinned by our Christian vision to “shine as stars in the world” and our DREAM Values of Determination, Respect, Empathy, Aspiration and Morals. These values are lived throughout school and help children understand themselves, their relationships with others and the contribution they can make to the wider world.
Personal development is woven through our PSHCE and safeguarding curriculum, collective worship, Forest School, curriculum subjects and wider school experiences. Children learn about healthy relationships, physical and mental wellbeing, online safety, citizenship, equality and diversity, keeping themselves safe and preparing for life in modern Britain.

But we believe personal development should extend far beyond lessons. Through leadership opportunities, clubs, trips, visitors, sporting events, performances, community involvement and enrichment experiences, we aim to broaden children’s horizons and help them discover new interests and talents.

We actively teach children to be respectful of different beliefs, cultures, families and backgrounds, developing their understanding of British Values and their responsibilities as members of their community.

Above all, we want every Rhodes Green child to develop a strong sense of who they are, what they stand for and what they are capable of – ready to step confidently into their next chapter and shine.
